Way back when, Jake was the warden of the Gardens of Versailles, responsible for de-varminting the environs, keeping watch at night, and generally adding an atmosphere of Good.
His favorite bloom was the starflower that held dew beneath its petals where he could see himself reflected. It only lasted a few moments before they rose to greet the sun, the morning warmth causing the drops to fall, but for that brief time, he swam in a bubble of sunlight, dog paddling upside down, paws to the clouds, head floating above the grass. Sometimes he would sit all night, waiting.
Now that he’s retired, Jake likes to stop and appreciate the whorls of the flower blossoms every chance he gets so that his walks are never a rushed affair.
